Lifestyle versus Diet This is just me personally but I see a diet as a temporary change for a specific period of time. I know that is not the real definition but my interpretation. For me, lifestyle is a long term change. This is how I am going to live the rest of my life. The big thing for me is that there are no 'cheats' on a lifestyle. I can make the choice to make a bad decision at a meal, but that does not then give me permission to blow the whole day. Being Realistic With Goals As I have been researching and learning so much more about the ketogenic diet this past week. I have heard claims all from clearing your complexion to helping treat cancer. Here are my specific goals that I am hoping the ketogenic diet: Lose weight: long term goal of at least 100 pounds goals Reduce inflammation in the body Balance my mood Preparation For My First Week of Keto Yesterday and today were spent shopping for foods for the first week. Went to Costco and bought veggies, meat, and a tub of coconut oil. Also went to my local grocery store and bought low carb type snack bars. Mostly Epic Bars (which is very low carb and mostly meat) and some Larabars (higher carb, but thought would work in a pinch). I made mayo and later tonight I will make devilled eggs for breakfast tomorrow morning. The approach I am taking this time is more of a moderate transition into ketosis. It looks like the carbs count for this first week will try to be around 50-80 grams. The big thing will be getting me off the processed garbage I eat every day. They only had McDonald's once this week. Also, I was prepping for my keto journey first week. Monday, July 24th is my day 1. In the Kitchen with Kim Kim's Mayo Recipe Use a Food Processor 2 egg yolks 2 teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar 1 teaspoon Dijon Mustard A sprinkle of salt 0.5 cup coconut oil warmed only enough to liquify 1.0 cup macadamia nut oil In the food processor add the yolks, vinegar, mustard, and salt. Give it a quick pulse on the processor to mix. 5 seconds tops. I like to combine my 2 oils into one container that is easy to control the flow of the oil you are pouring. Start the food processor and very slowly add the oil mixture into the open part of your food processor. To add all the oil should take about 3 minutes.
