Keto flu and transitioning to a ketogenic diet are the discussion topics this week on the podcast. Keto Flu Symptoms - fatigue, sugar cravings, trouble sleeping, irritability, lack of concentration Cause - The main cause is electrolyte imbalance. Your body is using up all the stored glucose in your body, called glycogen. Each glycogen has 4 water molecules attached to it. So the water gets released. Where the water goes (out of the body) so goes the sodium and other minerals. Ideas to try to help - Drink plenty of water Trace Mineral Tablets Eat more fat Rest and take care of yourself Transitioning To A Ketogenic Diet When you transition to a ketogenic diet you could go cold turkey and immediately go to 20 net carbs per day or you could transition gradually. This is something I personally have struggled with. In the past I have always done a cold turkey approach. I would not eat enough and feel horrible. By day 3 I was done and binging on Taco Bell. This time I am working with a group and they are having us do a gradual transition. Below is an article by Dr. Cate explaining why gradual may be better. The heart of the explanation is that cold turkey is hard on the body especially the thyroid. When you drastically take away the carbs it signals the body to go into a hibernation mode (reverse T3 being high, read the article for a great explanation). However if you would gradually modify your carb reduction it would be easier for your body to make the transition and not send you into hibernation mode. Weekly Win Ryan made it below 250lbs. He is now at 248! Boys ate my keto pancakes and liked it!
