In this episode, we dig a little deeper into who we are and what we want to do. In this episode, we launch the first ever Real Food Challenge . Each episode, I will give Susan a new food challenge and let's just say that Susan is no Julia Child, making for hilarious stories when she reports back to us – success or failure. Could she do it? Would her kids eat it? More importantly, would her husband? Could she source the ingredients? Did she embarass herself in the process? Susan attempting Real Food Challenges is not only meant to entertain us but to demonstrate a particular nutrition principal, usually rooted in ancestral health. If you are inspired to join in, please do and let us know if you do. We want to know what you tried, how it went and what you might actually incorporate into your life. Please share your stories in the comments section below. Susan's first Real Food Challenge is to make the commonly used condiment: mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is a staple condiment but unfortunately is loaded with preservatives and artificial colour (yes, even though it's white). But it SUPER easy to make at home. I have enjoyed making home-made mayo for a few years now and would never return to the store bought stuff. During the podcast I read the ingredients of a popular commercial brand of mayonnaise: water, soybean oil, sugar, vinegar, food starch-modified, salt, cellulose gel (microcrystaline cellulose), mustard flour, egg white, artificial colour, sodium caseinate, xanthum gum, cellulose gum, spice, paprika, natural flavour, betacarotene (colour). Yuck. Here is the recipe I use, straight from one of my go-to cook books, 'Well Fed' by Melissa Joulwan' who runs the popular blog The Clothes Make the Girl.
