Questions About This Episode

What is FTHP 007: What's the most important question in skin care? about?

Which products do I need to look younger? How do I get rid of this breakout/acne/redness/age spot? Will this product clog my pores? Is this right for my skin type? These questions are common when it comes to skin care but they are not the most important. The most important question has nothing to do with how you will look. But how can we not worry about how we look when the media bombards us with images of women with the most youthful, glowing skin? As a women of modern, western culture, we are born into this media construct. Whether the models are 20 or 40 there isn't a wrinkle or an age spot to be seen. These images sink into our consciousness and without realizing it, we believe this is what we should look like. And the flawless look is attainable if we use the ultra-moisturizing, anti-aging, wrinkle-defying, luminescent, fountain of youth products advertised. Right? Seriously, do we ever get that flawless look? Reality hits us every morning when we glance in the mirror and see rosacea, dark circles, break outs, age spots, or those fine laugh lines. So we buy more under-eye concealer, brightening creams, retightening cream, and retinol A perfecting cream with a French lift. The fact is that look can only be attained with Photoshop. As supermodel Cindy Crawford once said, 'I wish I looked like Cindy Crawford.' So let's stop chasing a constructed lie. Let reconstruct what it means to be beautiful and to care for our skin. Let's nourish our body and skin and let our natural, unique beauty shine through. Let's shift away from our desire for unrealistic outcomes through the application of expensive and chemical-laden products and towards the pursuit of inner beauty, truly caring for our skin's unique expression and overall health. And the skin care products we use CAN contribute to our overall health. The most important question is simply: What are the ingredients in our skin care products? Trina Felber, CEO of Primal Life Organics, explains that our skin is our largest living organ and we believe it to be an impermeable external barrier. The truth is whatever we slather on our skin is absorbed. It doesn't stay on the surface, it sinks in. It's absorbed right into the blood stream and can be stored in our fat for years contributing health problems So let go of that beauty ideal. Stop using the products that are full of harmful chemicals. Start feeding your skin. Feeding your skin. Let that sink in.
