Questions About This Episode

What is Betsy Bird about?

Today we are going to be talking with Betsy Bird. Betsy is actually a children's librarian, a blogger and an author. Her books, including "Wild Things! Acts of Mischief in Children's Literature" was called by Booklist, in its starred review, a book that will delight and divert any lover of books for kids and will also inform newcomers to the field, planting seeds of salutary subversion in their minds and hearts. "Wild Things!" I think I love you! Her blog, A Fuse Eight Production is just about the be all and end all of all kidlit blogs out there. There are easily 1,000's of blogs in the blogosphere, about kid's literature but none as up to date, knowledgeable and just a little bit snarky but really fun reading. Plus she has gone from a totally independent blog, to a totally independent blog on School Library Journals list of blogs to a blog that has skype interviews with some pretty amazing children's authors. Plus, if this weren't enough, she is also a youth material Specialist for the New York Public Library. On a purely personal note, about 7 ago, I was having some difficulty on where I should take goodconversations.com to next. What authors to profile, what books to do "A Kid's Video Guide to", how I should expand my website, etc. My local kid's librarian, Marci Dressler in Ossining, NY, told me that I should read this blog called Fuse Eight. Well, I read it; I was hooked and went down to see the name behind the blog, Betsy Bird. She was bright, really knew her stuff and an hour later I was on my way home with some great new ideas for my goodconversations.com website.
