On this podcast we will be talking with Ann M. Martin about her latest work, "Rain Reign." Ann is best known for bringing the Babysitters Club to life. After 188 million copies of "The Babysitter's Club" books were sold the series ended and Ann went to on to write even more for the kidlit marketplace. She has won all sorts or awards for her work, including a Newbery honor book for "A Corner of the Universe." "Rain Reign" is Ann's newest, award winning book. This hauntingly beautiful book talks about the strong bond between an Elementary School girl with Asperger's disease and her dog and what goes on in her life; ultimately dealing with questions about what is right and what is wrong. The book won the 2015 Schneider Family Book Award, an award given by the American Library Association to honor an author or illustrator for a book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience for children and adolescent audiences. There was actually a very personal reason behind my wanting to get Ann to talk about this particular book. But we'll get to that. We'll also talk about some of her other work, her charity and a few personal items on this podcast.
