Questions About This Episode

What is EP17: Time is the Most Expensive Currency of All about?

"Time is the most expensive currency we have."—Malorie Nicole (0:55-1:00) Sacrificing your time, health, and relationships for the sake of your business can be a big mistake. This is especially true for new entrepreneurs who haven't had the chance to learn the most valuable lessons in achieving long-term success. Being able to step away from your work enhances productivity and helps you reach your personal and professional goals. You get more out of life while experiencing the fulfillment you were looking for when you took the leap into starting your own business. "If you don't value your time, you don't value yourself."—Malorie Nicole (3:14-3:21) Too much work takes the fun out of life. Entrepreneurs can fall into the trap of prioritizing profit over time, freedom, and other forms of currency. The scarcity mindset that many people operate on is one of the most common causes of this pitfall. A belief system rooted in scarcity can make you feel unworthy of getting the most out of your time. So entrepreneurs settle for something less and forget to give themselves permission to enjoy each day. Very few people are able to work 12 hours a day while maintaining a balance between their business goals and their personal needs. They exercise and sleep less, skip meals, and let meaningful relationships fall by the wayside. "More work doesn't always mean more profit."—Malorie Nicole (5:54-5:57) Entrepreneurs have never-ending to-do lists they need to tackle. But learning how to value your time teaches you how to value yourself. There are some simple ways to implement a standard by which you operate each day. In addition to stepping away from the work, you may need to slow down, reorganize your schedule, and outsource tasks that pull you away from the work that fulfills you most. When business owners put these and other strategies in place, they're often surprised to see a dramatic increase in productivity and profit. When you do the work you love in a way that values your time, you begin to work from a place of abundance instead of scarcity. You develop the fundamental belief that your work gets to be easy and enjoyable. Where do you need to implement a standard in your schedule so you can live the life you want? No one started a business to become a slave to it. If you're not careful, you'll find that you wasted time, energy, and other limited resources on things that weren't all that important. Take the time to determine where you need to establish that standard within your schedule. This is the first step to doing the work you love and living the life you want. Time spent is lost forever. But learning to value yourself gives you the most out of the time you have today, tomorrow, and the years ahead.
