Do you know how valuable you are? Do you struggle with depression, feelings of low-self worth, self-judgement, and hopelessness? Depression effects over 10 million Americans and has been called a National Health Crisis. We know this but why are we still afraid to talk about it? There are stigmas about depression including being a "lesser" person or "abnormal" and feeling shame about being depressed. Yet depression is so common. Lark Dean Galley is a strong business woman who recently lost her son to suicide. At first she tried to keep it a secret because of the stigma, shame, and judgement she feared. Many people reached out to her sharing their stories of depression, suicide, and anxiety. Lark then felt she had a responsibility, obligation, and mission to share her story and open up a vulnerable real conversation about mental health and suicide. Listen as Lark shares how to make this a "safe" conversation between parents, kids, family, and the community. Lark has a message to parents to help them be kinder, more loving, and accepting of their children. She also acknowledges the survivor grief, shame, and blame. She shares questions to ask people who may be struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. We all need human connection and to be kind to ourselves and others. Lark shares the program she created to build mental resilience. She shares how we can uplift others and build our personal mental strength. Lark talks about how we can see the good in others and take responsibility to build our own mental strength. Lark shares with parent's who may have experienced the suicide of a child some of the things she learned. Depression is a mental illness and a person who is struggling may need the help of a professional therapist or medical doctor. Please reach out, ask questions, be kind, and connect.
