Michael Herst always knew he would work in law enforcement. It wasn’t just a job, it was a way of life that fully underpinned his identity. He was drawn to this by way of positive rebellion – he came from a family that struggled with alcoholism and drug use and so it’s no coincidence that DUI enforcement became his specialism. Michael made his way up to a sergeant’s role leading him to be involved in capturing two of America’s most wanted as well as making some people important, positive impacts in people’s lives. He was on the detail for two different presidents and the prime minister of Japan. He developed skills that enabled him to talk people out of suicide attempts and dealt with cases of serious domestic violence. But the most significant thing that Michael did was not by choice. It was a reinvention of his life after a serious accident that finished his career whilst in the line of duty….
