I was educated much by the internet as by anyone and one of the most important parts of my learning was my education in indie music. Limewire, Kazaa, Napster, Youtube and Last.fm were my sources of new music as I spent years wondering when the Indian music scene will move past Bollywood. And then Indian hip hop happened. A new frontier opened up with authentic Indian musicians spitting their own rap over authentic Indian beats. How did Indian hip hop do the unthinkable and take centre stage in Indian popular music? I decided to ask two people who might have a clue.
