This is another edition of EMSCEP Radio, from our on-location coverage of the Fairfax Fire Rescue EMS Week Training Symposium, during EMS Week. In this episode, we talk with two experts from the stroke care community. Dr Edward Greenberg and John Lawrence are leaders from the Stroke Care team at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. They are going to talk to us about what we can do in the pre-hospital community to assure care of our patients beyond the "typical stroke window" assessment. Edward D. Greenberg , M.D. INOVA Medical Group Dr. Greenberg is an expert in the treatment of vascular diseases of the brain, spine, head and neck, as well as minimally invasive treatment of fractures of the spine. He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He went on to earn his medical degree from Cornell University, and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After medical school, Dr. Greenberg completed a residency and fellowship in diagnostic radiology, neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology, and a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology and the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery. Throughout his medical career, Dr. Greenberg has been recognized as a compassionate and skilled physician who goes above and beyond to care for his patients. He has received numerous awards and has published many scientific articles and book chapters within the field of interventional neuroradiology. His research interests include intracranial aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral vasospasm, ischemic stroke and brain perfusion imaging, among others. John Lawrence , BSN, RN, Stoke Program Manager INOVA Mt. Vernon John is the Stroke and Sepsis Navigator at Inova Mount Vernon hospital in Alexandria, VA. Through case reviews, coaching and interdisciplinary collaboration, Lawrence led his hospital to receive the highest possible stroke award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association in 2017: Gold Plus Achievement with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus. The award recognizes the hospital's commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment according to nationally recognized guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. Lawrence holds a B.S.N. from the University of South Carolina Upstate, in addition to a B.A. in Humanities.
