EMS Wk 2017: REVIVE! - Opiate Addiction Program

This is another edition of EMSCEP Radio, from our on-location coverage of the Fairfax Fire Rescue EMS Week Training Symposium, during EMS Week. In this episode, we talk with Amira Turner. We will learn about the REVIVE Program. It's a Virginia statewide program designed to help support families and people with addiction to opiates. Amira Turner, REVIVE! Coordinator Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services Amira graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed the Substance Abuse Counseling Education coursework through J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in 2015. Currently, she is working towards a Master of Social Work through VCU's School of Social Work as well as a Master of Science in Addiction Studies through VCU's International Programme in Addiction Studies. Her research has been focused on opioid addiction and how to best respond to opioid overdose. Her past experience includes co-facilitating counseling groups for women's issues, substance misuse and addiction, well as interpersonal violence counseling, and case management.
