What is EMS WK 2017: Mental Wellness for the Rescuer about?

This is another edition of EMSCEP Radio, from our on-location coverage of the Fairfax Fire Rescue EMS Week Training Symposium, during EMS Week. In this episode, we talk with Maia Dalton-Theodore, LCSW, CSAC, SAP of Fairfax County Fire Rescue. She's our Behavioral Health Coordinator and will talk to us about mental wellness and stress awareness for rescue personnel. Maia Dalton-Theodore , LCSW, CSAC, SAP Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Maia is currently the Behavioral Health Coordinator for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. She administers the Fire Chaplains program, the Crisis Response Team and the Family Assistance Team . She also works with Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics who are struggling with substance abuse issues through the Disciplinary Diversion Program. She received her BA Degree in Sociology and German from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA. She received her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Hawaii. She began her Social Work career working in the addictions field first for CATS at INOVA Hospital and then Arlington Hospital. She has provided clinical supervision to Masters level students from various Social Work Schools in the Metropolitan area. She has trained managers, employees and peer counselors regarding substance abuse, mental health, trauma and grief issues. She was married to the late Charles "Chip" Theodore, a retired Captain from the Arlington, Virginia Fire Department.
