Episode Summary: Have you ever been in a situation where you knew you needed to make a change in your career and you weren't sure what change should be? Or what you want to do? Or what that change should be? Sometimes when we need to make a career change it can be overwhelming if we are unclear on what we want to do or where we should be going or even how to get there. Really the most important thing when we are looking at making a career change is working your plan backwards. Meaning, reverse engineering your career plan. We start out where you want to end up and then work our way backwards and figure out step by step how we are going to get there. 5 Steps to Career Clarity 1) Figure out where you want to go What do you ultimately want to accomplish? What role do you want to have? 2) Ask yourself why you want to get there What is is about that position that is so appealing to you? Be honest with yourself and real. 3) What skills do you need to accomplish, or acquire, that you don't already have now? If you are unsure of what skills you are going to need, go over to sites like Indeed or LinkedIn and find job descriptions of the titles you are looking at or even people on LinkedIn who have that title and look at some of the titles they have. 4) Figure out how you're going to close the gap on the skills you need to have (number 3) and the skills you have now. Make a plan to close that gap. 5) Start having conversations. Talk to people that are in these positions. Ask them: what do you like about your job? What do you regret?
