Link to Unpacking: I hope you have an amazing day or evening! Today we are diving into some goal setting, prioritization and life evaluation in general. Typically people look at goals at the beginning of the year in January however I still think in February this will be helpful. I want you to grab a piece of paper and a pen. Before we look to set goals, we have to look at the different areas of our lives and make sure we are focusing on the right area. As you guys know life is complicated, there is so much happening all the time, one quarter, one month even, hell even one week we may want to focus on our career and the very next week there might be something going on where we need to focus on family. I just want to make sure before we go create all these really amazing goals for ourselves that we are going to focus in the right areas. I'm going to have you list out the different areas of your life. Some areas may include: Family Friends Kids / Children Pets Spirituality / Faith / Religion Personal Growth & Development Self Care / Self Love / Alone Time Spouse / Partner Dating Marriage School / Education Relationships Health / Fitness / Movement Money / Finances / Wealth Hobbies Side Businesses / Side Projects What I want you to do is rate yourself in each category from 1-10. 1 being really bad 10 being really good Look at that list and look at all the ones that are below a 5 and then all the ones that are 5 and above. Are there any that are below a 5 that you really want to focus on. Just because they are low doesn't mean you need to focus on them. At one point when I did this exercise one of my categories was dating, and I rated it a 3 but it wasn't something I wanted to focus on at the time. Of all the categories you have created, pick your top 2. Once you have the top 2 you are going to focus on, write that down. Then create 1-2 goals for each category you picked. As you are setting these goals, let's use the SMART acronym. S = Specific M = Measurable A = Achievable R = Relevant T = Time bound / Timely Every 3-6 months go through this list again and rate yourself in these categories. A couple other things I am going to give you guys to evaluate and think about as you are getting into these goals. When you think about your energy think about it as one big bucket that has a bunch of holes in it. You're constantly filling up the bucket but there are these holes in it so it is draining out. I want you to think about your time and your energy like this bucket and the water that is coming in and then what is draining out. Think about the water as your time and energy. Think about what is filling this bucket. And what is draining it. For me, I am outgoing introvert. I need to recharge typically by myself and I am very outgoing so I am not shy. When I am tired, exhausted and need energy it's usually myself, with the dog, watching Netflix. Think about the different things that fill your bucket. It could be helping other people, it could be going out, grabbing a drink, enjoying dinner with your best friend. List all the things that fill you up and give you energy, that make you happy. On the complete opposite end of that spectrum, a whole different list, list out all the things that drain your energy, that drain your happiness. So what's filling your bucket? What is emptying your bucket? Anything thing I want you to think about as you're creating your goals is where do you see yourself in 2 years? Don't put limits on this. It could be literally anything you want it to be. The next thing is what do you need to do more of? And on the flip side of that, what do you need to do less of? Or what do you need to stop doing all together? Paypal: paypal.me/stephdennis13 For show notes go to: unpackingpodcast.com To connect: Instagram: @stephdennis13 Facebook: You're awesome!!
