Questions About This Episode

What is Body Image and Self Acceptance - Writing A New Story about?

Hello and welcome to the second episode of Walking with Wildflowers. I'm Keri - a writer, mother, creative and newbie podcast-maker - and I do hope you're ready for a rather messy chat about self-criticism, body positivity, fat-shaming, self-acceptance, my relationship with my own body and what it has taken to get me to start treating the human vessel I reside in kindly. In this episode, I talk about the moment I first started criticising my body, I admit to being a recovering fat-shamer, how we as women need to embrace our voracious appetites for life instead of constantly restricting and punishing ourselves and to reclaim our feminine power by appreciating ourselves just as we are. I discuss my need to start writing a new story in my head, as hard as it may be, regarding dieting, fitness and the ideal female body. I also go on a little feminist tangent and a bit of a plea to older vegans to be kinder to new vegans, especially when it comes to body shaming. I say "wine" and "chocolate" a lot. It's a difficult, emotional and deeply personal topic and a hard one to execute without offending someone… but overall it's a message of love and kindness to both myself and women everywhere and a request that we start loving all our different female bodies - for our own sanity and for the sake of our daughters' futures. This episode has been extremely challenging to put together and is nowhere near as polished as I was hoping it would be…. and having re-listened to it now, I realise again just how much of a sensitive topic it is and how it make some feel uncomfortable or even angry…but as usual, its raw and real and I even left in parts which probably should have become bloopers!
