Stem Cell Banking - Is it Useful ?

Stem Cell Banking or Cord Blood Banking or Cord Banking as it called is the storage of the umbilical cord and the stem cells derived from the cord blood with the hope of using the same for treating various medical disorders. What are these stem cells? Where are they present? Why this rush to bank stem cells at the time of birth if we already have stem cells in our body? What diseases are currently being cured through stem cells and are these only blood-related disorders? Will this really be of any use tomorrow or is this just a fad right now.? I am often asked these questions and more by my patients every day. I thought its best to put all relevant information into this podcast and my own thoughts on whether stem cell preservation should be done.
