Show Notes: Tip 1: Understand that it will pass - ride the wave It feels like that is it, no more creative juice, no ideas flowing, thats it, start again. Nothing left, world is coming to an end - relax. It WILL pass. Think of it like a wave - some waves are big, some are small, but if you ride it you will reach the sure and have a fun time doing it if you do it right. If you beat yourself up when this happens all you do is stay in the same place - nothing productive will come from it. We are only human. But, think of your body like a car, and just like a car that needs fuel for a long journey - every now and again you need to let the car be, rest, refuel and come back and it is fine. Understand it may happen Understand it will stop Tip 2: Watch dance clips/movies Try watching old clips that used to inspire you Search for recent competition clips Search for any new dance clips Watch dance movies that you love Tip 3: Search for new music Sometimes it can be the music that you listen to that doesn't help the flow of creation and inspiration Listen to music from a genre that you don't normally listen to Listen to tracks that you know you love Take your music somewhere and go on a bus ride/walk/run - get out of the house change of scenery Tip 4: Take a short break Sometimes you need to actually stop doing what you normally do/listen to watch, and actually take a break. Something short and simple like go for a walk Talk to someone on the phone If the dancers drought is really bad then maybe a longer break. Turn the internet off, get your usual dance stuff away from you, if you can go away for a few days, if you can't then do things that are NOT related to your dance in anyway. On the short break accept that you may feel like you don't want to dance or do anything to do with dance at the moment - that is ok. As dancers we can only go like that for so long before it naturally comes back, and if your drought is dry maybe that is what you need - for it to naturally come back I know people who have been out of teh scene for months only to come back and start winning competitions. Tip 5: Force it if you have to If time is of the essence, or you are teaching/choreographing for a class that evening then you have to force it out It may be fake until you get your grove back - accept that. It is ok. Have a look back over your old routines/dance clips - if you don't have any then you need to start filming/uploading to your pc for these exact times Use a safe song/songs and moves you know really well and don't have to think of much Use an old routine and TRY to change it. This all depends on your situation. If you need UNIQUE choreography obviously this wont work. I don't want to get to heavily into Choreography here. Tip 6: Talk to someone who knows you well Sometimes we can panic, and when we get through it and look back we wondered what all the fuss was about! But sometimes it is hard to see how big the storm is when you are in the eye of the storm. Sometimes friends, family, partners can bring you back down to earth when you are open and honest about how you are feeling Tip 7: Go to a dance event There is nothing quite like sitting back and watching dancers who are in their zone, do their thing If the event is far away sometimes the journey does you good, so does the change of surroundings. The event will hopefully have music, moves, and people to inspire you Tip 8: Go to a different dance class that you usually go to: If going to an event is too much or just not realistic then check out a different dance class, or even a different style dance class. Do things for fun and change your mood from down to up, negative to positive, pessimistic to optimistic. Again hopefully the people, music, change of scenery will help Just to recap: Tip 1: Understand that it will pass - ride the wave Tip 2: Watch dance movies/clips Tip 3: Search for new music Tip 4: Take a short break Tip 5: Force it if you have to Tip 6: Talk to someone who knows you well Tip 7: Go to a dance event Tip 8: Go to a different dance class that you usually go to: Again I hope that helped and if there is anything you want to add to this list send me an email sg@ss4a.com I would love to know any tips you have for recovering from your dancers drought, inspiration dissipation All of todays points and links I mentioned will be available in the show notes and to access them all you have to do is go to ss4a.com/4 Special thing Thank you so much for listening and if you liked this episode please leave me a review and
