What's the Difference between Positive and Negative Discipline?

There are 2 types of discipline: action and deprivation. Action is positive, deprivation is negative. Always try to use actions over deprivation. For example, Johnny hits his sister so her has to make her bed for 2 days. That's an action and it teaches kindness and how to make amends. If you take his favourite toy away for 2 days instead, i.e., a deprivation, what has he learned? Yes, he's learned that he may lose his toy if he hits his sister but he hasn't learned how to be nice to her.
