I piatti sono molti e diversissimi tra di loro e anche la grande festa varia a seconda della regione. Al sud per esempio si festeggia con una grande cena la sera della Vigilia, cioè il 24 dicembre, mentre al nord si festeggia con un grande pranzo il giorno di Natale, cioè il 25 dicembre. Il giorno della Vigilia, il 24 dicembre, si consuma una cena di „magro“, cioè senza carne. In tante famiglie si mangia pesce.
