Vedremo anche perché il nostro Paese si chiama Italia e da dove deriva il nome della capitale Roma. Allora, cominciamo col dire che la storia della nascita e dell’evoluzione dell’italiano è complessa e la nostra lingua è stata influenzata da molti altri popoli. È vero che l’Italia si trova dove tra il 27 a.C. e il 476 d.C. c’era l’Impero Romano dove la lingua ufficiale era il latino. Non dovete pensare però che la gente comune parlasse il latino dei poeti classici Catullo, Virgilio o Orazio. Il popolo parlava una lingua più facile, conosciuta come latino volgare. Il latino volgare aveva delle influenze locali, cioè a seconda di dove la gente viveva, aveva delle parole o delle inflessioni tipiche di quel territorio.
