La parola che ci interessa è jeopardise , che non ha niente a che fare con i ghepardi, anche se solo per assonanza potrebbe così sembrare. Significa invece mettere in pericolo: secondo Major e Blair la Brexit, l'uscita del Regno Unito dall'Unione europea sulla quale i cittadini britannici sono chiamati a esprimersi il 23 giugno, metterebbe in pericolo l'unità del Uk, United Kingdom. He would never do anything to jeopardize his career: Non farebbe mai niente per mettere in pericolo la sua carriera. Il sostantivo, j eopardy significa pericoli, rischio. George was in jeopardy of going to jail for a long time if convicted. George correva il rischio di finire in prigione per molto tempo se lo arrestavano. "Double jeopardy" è usato negli Stati Uniti nella terminologia legale e significa: the fact of taking somebody to court twice for the same crime or punishing somebody twice for the same reason. Portare qualcuno in tribunale due volte per lo stesso crimine o infliggere due volte una pena per la stessa ragione. E' infatti una procedura vietata dal Quinto emendamento della Costituzione americana . Come phrasal verb c'è To put in jeopardy , mettere in pericolo. Your unreasonable behavior is putting the whole show in jeopardy. Il tuo atteggiamento insensato sta mettendo a rischio l'intero concerto.
