English bit - Boil over

Bernie Sanders: Democratic establishment battle boils over. La battaglia all'interno dell'establishment del partito democratico "esce dalla pentola". Dobbiamo per forza tradurre così, in modo non certo elegante, il titolo dell'articolo che il Washington Post ha dedicato alle ultime tappe del percorso verso la nomination per le presidenziali. "It was really just a matter of time": era solo una questione di tempo. "With the Democratic presidential primary in its twilight, frustration within the ranks over the party's handling of the primary process spilled out this week as Bernie Sanders supporters lashed out at party leaders, arguing that their candidate has been treated unfairly." Mentre le primarie democratiche si avviano a conclusione (twilight, crepuscolo), la frustrazione all'interno delle fila (ranks) del partito sono scoppiate. Il verbo che ci interessa è appunto "boil over" , un phrasal verb che parte da to boil , bollire e che ha spesso un significato figurato. Non solo quindi il latte che esce dalla pentola perché ci si dimentica di abbassare la fiamma. "Racial tensions finally boiled over in the inner city riots". Alla fine le tensioni razziali esplosero nelle rivolte dei quartieri più poveri". Traduciamo "inner city" con quartieri poveri perché in molte città americane le persone economicamente disagiate non vivono solo nelle periferie, come da noi, ma anche nelle zone dei centri storici (inner city) particolarmente degradate, un po' come accadeva in Italia a Genova, ad esempio, o a Bari. Altro phrasal verb è boil down , che significa invece sintetizzare, ridurre: The original speech I had written got boiled down to about ten minutes. Il discorso che mi ero preparato fu ridotto a dieci minuti. In the end, what it boils down to is money, or the lack of it. Alla fine, si tratta solo di denaro. O della sua mancanza. Boiling up invece significa esasperare: I could fell anger boiling up inside me. Sentivo la rabbia crescere dentro di me. Usato come nome, ricordiamo l'espressione o ff the boil: The second series of the TV show really went off the boil. La seconda stagione della serie televisiva è stata decisamente deludente rispetto alla prima.
