Live on November 24, 2015 In this episode, Ted Dintersmith, Executive Producer of the Most Likely to Succeed Edu-Documentary, talks with school leaders about the film and his mission to reinvent the traditional school model that has been in place for more than 120 years. GUESTS: Ted Dintersmith. After a career in venture capital, Ted Dintersmith is focused on issues at the intersection of innovation and education. He is funding and supporting a range of initiatives that seek to improve the life prospects of youth around the nation and globe. He executive produced Most Likely To Succeed and The Hunting Ground, two acclaimed documentaries that premiered at Sundance, 2015. He wrote, along with co-author Tony Wagner, the book Most Likely To Succeed: Preparing Our Kids for the Innovation Era. He is now leading a fifty-state campaign to encourage schools to support innovation. His website describes these initiatives and he can be followed @dintersmith. In the fall of 2012, Ted was selected by President Obama to represent the United States at the United Nations General Assembly, where he focused on global education and entrepreneurship. Ted is a Partner Emeritus with Charles River Ventures, a leading early-stage venture capital firm, and has financed numerous successful start-ups. Ted served on the Board of the National Venture Capital Association, chairing its Public Policy Committee. Independent industry analysts ranked Ted as the top-performing venture capitalist in the United States for the 1995-99 period. Prior to venture capital, he was a senior executive at Analog Devices, and worked on Capitol Hill on science and technology policy. Ted earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from Stanford University, and his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary, where he earned High Honors in Physics and English. Ben Daley is the chief academic officer for High Tech High. He acts as an advisor to fifteen high school students and teaches and advises students in the HTH Graduate School of Education, where he is the Director of Clinical Sites. Ben joined High Tech High to teach physics as a founding faculty member in fall 2000. He was the second director of High Tech High Original Recipe. A New Hampshire native, Ben wisely moved to San Diego, CA at the first opportunity. As a student at Haverford College, Ben majored in physics and was credentialed in secondary physics and math. After graduation, he traveled to the Philippines and taught science and math at an international school in Manila. Upon his return to the U.S., he taught physics and AP physics at the Madeira School, a girls boarding school in suburban Washington, D.C. He then moved to California to coach basketball and to teach physics at Pomona and Pitzer Colleges. He earned an M.A. in science education at University of California, Santa Barbara and is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at University of California, San Diego. He is a member of the fifth class of the Aspen-Pahara Education Fellows and a Fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Ben is the proud parent of a boy (Coleman) and a girl (Greer). David Britten is in his 8th year as the Superintendent of Schools at Godfrey-Lee Public Schools in Wyoming, Michigan. David previously served 12 years as a building principal, working at all grade levels as an elementary, intermediate, middle and high school principal at Lee Middle-High School in Wyoming, MI and at R.J. Steeby and Pine Street Elementary Schools in Wayland, MI. He began his career in education as a high school math and computer science teacher in 1980. David also served his country as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army and Michigan Army National Guard from 1974 through 1996. He served in the reserve (1974-1982) and was on active duty (1982-1996) status in a variety of leadership positions culminating in retirement with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry.
