Trauma, hate, distrust, fear, frustration, tears, disgust, abuse, resentment. These are some of the effects of doing time. After all, programming and conditioning convicted psyches for self-destruction is the soul crushing reality of life in the American prison system. Incarceration may supposedly be about rehabilitation, but more often than not, it is a process that results in committing more crime and serving more time. When kids are direct filed into adult facilities, many live, the rest of their lives fighting Post Traumatic Stress Demons behind concrete, steel, and razor wire. And for adults who get locked up, their arrest usually means an arrested emotional development. So even if they get out at age 50, they're still locked in the mindset of a twenty year old. For every Malcolm X, there are ten million felons whose names you'll never know, who never shake their past. Society breeds impropriety; and careless citizens through the infected soul of American democracy. Where there is injustice for one, there is injustice for all.
