Questions About This Episode

What is Steven Eberlein "Prep Out Loud" about?

This week we talk to Steven Eberlin about his program Prepare Our Loud. Steven spoke at TEDx Portland on why we do not prepare for earthquakes. It is a fascinating story on Steven's journey from an English teacher to an outspoken protonate of personal preparedness. Guest Bio Steven's experience of the Sri Lanka tsunami in 2004 led him to a career focused on promoting safety and preparedness in the Pacific Northwest. His understanding of preparedness and preparedness culture has taken shape over nine years with the Red Cross. In 2016, he authored "Prepare Out Loud," a community preparedness program focused on building the Pacific Northwest's resilience for a 9.0M Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. Prepare Out Loud synthesizes the best of his skills and the deepest of his passions. Steven's aim is to bring the Pacific Northwest to the tipping point where earthquake preparedness becomes normal, expected and cultural. His TEDx Portland Talk "Why we do not prepare for earthquakes" serves as both an explanation of his cultural preparedness theories, and a tool for making this theory a reality. Steven is actively exploring avenues that will allow Prepare Out Loud to reach its full potential so that it can save as many lives as possible. He believes that Prepare Out Loud and the theories behind it will one day serve as a successful and replicable model for other massive public safety initiatives worldwide.
