Body This week we talk to Anne Stauffer of the Pew Charitable Trusts. Anne surveyed state emergency managers and their staffs requesting information on 2012-16 spending for state-funded disaster assistance programs, expenditures related to federal programs, and federal reimbursements received. Pew then determined each state's total disaster spending by adding the two spending categories and reducing that figure by the reported reimbursement amount. The researchers also held follow-up discussions with states to clarify and refine their responses. Guest Bio Anne Stauffer directs Pew's work on fiscal federalism and broadband research. As project lead for the fiscal federalism initiative, she oversees research on the impact of federal tax and spending changes on states and directs efforts to engage policymakers in discussions on this critical fiscal relationship. For the broadband initiative, Stauffer manages a team researching where broadband needs to be deployed, and the promising and replicable state practices for expanding access. Before joining Pew, Stauffer was an assistant division director in the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration's Budget Division. Before her work in New Mexico, she was a program examiner for telecommunications agencies with the Office of Management and Budget in Washington, and a policy specialist for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. She also worked for an international nonprofit organization that served survivors of war. Stauffer holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from Brown University and a master's in business administration from the University of North Carolina Links LinkedIn: Twitter: Facebook: Instagram: Website: Email: jratner@pewtrusts.org EM Weekly Information EM Weekly Forums: Resources Advertisers Titan HST The Blue Cell
