Images and conflict are intertwined in our collective imaginations. Who doesn't hold an arresting image of war in their head? From a photograph of a scarred, scared and naked Vietnamese child, to videos of beheadings, through images of Americans torturing Baathists, retinal records of war are ever present. This February, King's College Centre for Strategic Communications hosted Kaleidoscope of Conflict. A gathering of artists and writers speaking about images and conflict, it was an unusual event for a Centre housed in one of the world's leading War Studies departments. Today we're joined by two of the speakers — Charlie Winter, Senior Research Fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence, speaks to us about his comprehensive collection of the imagery of Islamic State. And Jenny Spenser-Smith, former Head of Collection Content at the National Army Museum speaks to us of the power of painting in depicting conflict. From London, join Dr Charles Kriel for Images and Conflict, a special episode of Ci — Countering Violent Extremism.
