第五十二课：岩兰草

岩兰草是一种具有香气的植物，与柠檬草、香茅和其他数种有香气的植物都有亲缘关系。不同的是，柠檬草是用全草植株提炼精油，而岩兰草则只使用根部提炼。蒸馏岩兰草的根可以得到深棕色的粘稠状精油。的确非常粘稠，估算了一下，几乎花了30秒的时间才将一滴岩兰草从精油瓶中滴出来。至少要种植两年以上的岩兰草根，所萃取出的精油品质最佳，选摘、徒手挖掘和清洗岩兰草的根，这需要耗费大量劳力。而且精油的比重大，蒸馏过程会比其他植物漫长很多，需要18~24小时，因此岩兰草也是一种很宝贵的精油。岩兰草的气味很丰富，不容易描述，具有大地深沉而厚重的气味，有点类似穗甘松和广藿香，但稀释后又出现浓烈的柠檬味，稀释后的岩兰草精油较好闻，与其他精油混合气味更好，香水工业常用来做定香剂。
