428 - What are you willing to die for?

I know the title is a bit dramatic, but it is a concept that I have had spinning around in my head as I have been listening to the latest episode of the Hardcore History Podcast dealing with the Celtic Holocaust. Between the times of 100 BC and around 50 BC the Celtic people found themselves engaged in a struggle for survival with the Roman empire and Julius Caesar. As individuals and as a whole it seems like they must have had to ask themselves the question, "What are we willing to die for?" It isn't an easy question or one that very many of us have had to ask ourselves, yet at the same time I can see some striking parallels to the kinds of questions we should be asking ourselves when it comes to personal protection and self-defense. I don't know if any of this will make any sense when you listen to it. Maybe it is just a bunch of illogical drivel. At the same time, the concepts struck me and as I hope to be a better student to both history and to personal protection, it makes sense to me to explore the connections when they seem to appear.
