岐阜県のむかし話。このお話の原型は『雁とり爺』と思われます。灰をまいて枯れ木に花を咲かせるのは、焼畑農業で山の草木を焼いた灰で作物を育てるところから来たのでしょう。良いおじいさんは動物を限りなく愛するのに対し、悪いおじいさんは殺したり臼を焼いたりします。作物を作り出した昔の人々は、こうした心を憎み、懲らしめたのです。
