Matt Alt is an American writer and translator based in Tokyo. He began learning Japanese in the 1980s, at a time when ‘Japan-bashing’—fuelled by factors such as trade friction between Japan and the US—was at its peak. What kept him going was his encounter with Japanese toys when he was around five or six years old. His desire to learn more about Japan and its pop culture, and to understand them better, never wavered. - 東京拠点に活動する米国出身の作家で翻訳家のマット・アルトさん。日本語を学び始めたのは1980年代、日米貿易摩擦などによるジャパンバッシングがピークでした。日本語の学習が続けられたのは、５、６歳の頃の日本のおもちゃとの出会い。日本そして日本のポップカルチャーをもっと知りたい、理解したいという気持ちが揺らぐことはありませんでした。
