The end of New START

Today we speak with Dr.Tilman Ruff about the end of the New START Treaty, that removes a significant nuclear restraint between Russia and the United States, which together possess 87% of the world’s nuclear weapons. Under New START, the United States and Russia were limited to deploy each a maximum of 1,550 strategic nuclear warheads and 700 nuclear weapon delivery systems. They also complied with verification, notification, and on-site inspection mechanisms that reduced uncertainty and helped prevent miscalculation.
