The Sound Of My Own Voice Episode 90. "Seed Bone & Hammer" SOMOV feature documentary on Kath MacLean. Recognized as one of Edmonton’s most eclectic poet-performers, Kath MacLean’s unique muse and creative delivery attract attention wherever she reads. Known for rich images, “breath-taking lyricism” and musicality, her award-winning poetry, prose, and non-fiction is generating critical acclaim across Canada. Praised by the likes of Al Purdy, Judith Fitzgerald, and George Elliot Clarke, Kath’s first book For a Cappuccino on Bloor was the recipient of the New Muse Award and was short-listed for the Kalamalka Press New Writers Competition. Kath’s poetry has also been broadcast on CBC Radio, and she’s been a popular guest on arts and entertainment radio shows from coast to coast when touring her work. Locally, she has appeared on CJSR-FM and A Channel and performed at the Edmonton Poetry Festival, ROAR, the Edmonton Olive Reading Series, and in the Nonfiction Reading Series at the Carrot Café. A strong voice within Edmonton’s arts community, Kath teaches creative writing at Grant MacEwan College and is currently Writer in Residence for the Canadian Authors Association (Edmonton Branch) with her office at Audrey’s Books. Previously, MacLean was a Professor of English Literature at the University of Alberta, and taught creative writing to high school and junior high school students in Ontario and Alberta. Kath will be launching Seed Bone & Hammer, a CD of performance poetry on December 10th at the Kasbar Lounge 10444 Whyte Ave. She has also recently completed a new manuscript of poetry entitled Kat Among the Tigers based on the journals and correspondence of modern short-fiction writer Katherine Mansfield.
