A company called Majistic Sdn.Bhd has several times entered the forest area in the Lijan river in Julau. But protested by the villagers. However, the third entry was unsuccessfully contested because the company stated that they had obtained a valid logging license. Residents checked with the Sibu forest department, and forest department officials confirmed that indeed the company had been awarded a logging license in the Lijan river area. Because the population is not satisfied, even though it has been protested. But a fixed log license is also issued. Residents of 15 longhouses in the Lijan river made a report to sprm in Kuching. After being investigated by MACC - it was proven that the company did not have a logging license. The officer in the forest department referred to turned out to be lying. SPRM's investigation also proved that 4 house harvesters/village heads admitted to receiving rm300 per month to agree to logging. The residents were very angry and dissatisfied because the company, despite objections, still brought in logging machinery. Even if they are given a logging license, permission from the villagers is still required. Residents submit this case for SPRM investigation and hope that all parties involved will be prosecuted and punished. For now the logging works have been stopped and all the logging machines have been taken out - said Andrew Paul.
