XXDESCXX In this story from John 5:1-17 of the healing of the man at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus is recorded as asking the paralysed man what appears to be a silly - if not cruel - question: 'Do you want to be healed?' We see in this story that Jesus the Great Physician had diagnosed a loss of hope in this man. He'd given up. Many feel they have been overlooked by God, not just in the area of healing but also salvation. People can even become ill through despair and disappointment.
