This episode continues the journey into the Japanese mythology where the first episode leaves off. With Izanami gone, Izanagi sets out to find her and his trip takes him to the underworld. In this episode, I walk you through the story as well as comment on some similarly structured stories that you probably know. I also explain the meaning behind this story and what it meant for the development of the country.Included below is a list of names of Gods and Japanese terms that have appeared in this podcast as well as references to the works that I used to help make this podcast available to you. The works are in Japanese, but if you can read Japanese and would like to support the original authors, I highly recommend doing so! List of God Names イザナギ Izanagi イザナミ Izanami Terms 古事記 Kojiki - "The book of ancient matters" - Commissioned by Empress Genmei in the early 700's and contains the original stories. 出雲 Izumo - A heavily spiritual place in Shimane prefecture in Japan where Izanagi takes Izanami's remains. 黄泉平坂 Yomotsuhirasaka - The entrance that descends down into the underworld, located in Shimane prefecture. 黄泉の国 Yominokuni - The Japanese name for the underworld 雷神 Raijin - The name of a God, in the case of these stories, they seem to be a malevolent God.
