Vad ska hända med ett pars nedfrysta embryon om de gör slut eller den ena parten dör? Vem kan bli förälder genom surrogatmödraskap och till vilket pris? Samtidigt hägrar nya teknologier vid horisonten, som låter som hämtade ur en science fiction-film. Artificiella livmödrar, avancerad embryotestning och könsceller som tillverkas av hudceller - plötsligt känns bokstavliga bebisfabriker inte längre så avlägsna... Frågan är om vi är på väg mot ett skifte, där embryomarknaden inte längre bara vänder sig till ofrivilligt barnlösa, utan till alla som vill (och har råd) att outsourca barnaskapandet och skräddarsy sina avkommor.
