This week Tara welcomes Katherine Pendergast and Lacie Brueckner to discuss how to walk children through the grieving process and provide strategies for parents who seek to prepare their children for the loss of a pet.. They will discuss their book, "Good Bye Bella: A Pet Story" In this thoughtful picture book, a young girl named Charlotte says goodbye to her dog, Bella, in the most loving way she can think of and cherishes the last few days with her beloved pet. After Bella passes away, Charlotte and her family celebrate Bella’s life and do activities to honor and remember their sweet Bella. Katherine Pendergast is a Midwest author who has written several books, including award-winning and number-one bestsellers. She loves writing about tricky topics that can help families during difficult times. Some of the topics she has written about include pet adoption, pet loss, human loss, funerals, and grieving. Lacie Brueckner has been a funeral director serving families since 2005. She takes a special interest in meeting the needs of children during the funeral process, as they very much want and need to feel included too. In her experience she has found that including them and letting them lead the way in how much they want to be included usually works the best. She has also written several other books, including her award-winning books Pickles the Dog: Adopted , Pickles the Dog: A Christmas Traditio n, and Babies of the Badlands .
