Fear of Change Why do we resist change… even when we know we need it?And what if the very thing we’re afraid of is where God is already working? In Week 2 of Brave: What Faith Does to Fear, we tackle the fear of change and uncover a powerful truth: we don’t just avoid change—we often stay loyal to what’s hurting us. Through Isaiah 43:19, we see that God isn’t asking us to figure out a new path… He’s already making one. But too often, we miss it because we’re holding onto what’s familiar instead of trusting what He’s doing now. This message explores the tension between comfort and calling, the role of habits and environments in keeping us stuck, and how real, lasting change happens—not through behavior modification, but through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, a renewed identity in God’s Word, and the power of community. You don’t have to see the whole path.You just have to trust the One who’s making it. Isaiah 43:19 Discussion topics HEAD – What did Jesus say to you through the Word? What stood out to you most from Isaiah 43:19? Why do you think God tells His people not to get stuck looking at what He did? Do you fear change? Why? Why is change such a central part of following Jesus (salvation and sanctification)? HEART – How did it make you feel? Is there something you know God is asking you to step into, but fear is holding you back? Which of these do you relate to most: wanting control? staying in what’s familiar? being “loyal to a mistake”? Which of the three areas (Holy Spirit, Identity in the Word, Community) do you need to lean into more? HANDS – What are you going to do with it? What is one specific area where you sense God doing something new in your life? What is one practical step you can take this week to move forward instead of staying where you are? Is there an environment, habit, or relationship you may need to adjust in order to support real change? Group Action / Prayer Moment Over the past few weeks—Easter, the messages, the moments we’ve experienced… Who should have been there with you? (pause… let people actually think) Not in a guilt way, but in a God might be highlighting someone way.
