In episode 4, our Co-Founder Wil and Marketing Lead Nicole, sit down with Richard Smith - Innovation & Entrepreneurship Lead at South of Scotland Enterprise . We’ve been lucky to work with Richard and the rest of the SOSE team over the last few months, on a research project aiming to research the current business landscape in the South of Scotland and the challenges that local enterprises in the areas face. Collectively, we are putting together a report, to allow us to understand the challenges, and navigate ways to improve them for enterprise operators in the region. Richard has worked for South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE – pronounced So-Say) since October 2020 and previously operated in both the private and third sector in a variety of sustainability-focused roles across the built environment, energy and renewables, and environmental data services. As a Chartered Environmentalist, he has a firm grasp on the challenges facing enterprise from a climate change perspective but also understands the opportunities these bring for innovation and new ways of living and working. Join Richard, Wil and Nicole as they discuss how SOSE was established completely remotely in 2020, how they are helping support founders and business owners, as well as the challenges that are being faced in the region, from both a business and sustainability point of view. Richard also touches on SOSE being a Carbon Literate Organisation, further highlighting their commitment to leading the region’s journey to Net Zero - as well as how SOSE are hoping to encourage other companies in the region to follow suit. South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) is the one-stop shop for businesses and enterprising communities throughout Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders. They aim to help people and enterprises in the south to thrive, grow, and fulfil their best potential.
