These professional musicians are the heart of the vibrant community that has grown up around them. The vast majority of the mariachis live in the historic 1889 Boyle Hotel, better known as "Mariachi Hotel," on the west side of the Plaza. Soon after the turn of the millennium, plans got underway for the Mariachi Plaza Metro Station on the Gold Line Eastside Extension–La Linea del Oro.
