Founded in 2010, Graminy seeks to fuse the classical and grassroots tradi- tions, from Bach to bluegrass, from Co- pland to Celtic, from Gershwin to native American, from Kodaly to klezmer, and more. Drawing on all these styles, Graminy composes and arranges all its music and calls it Class-Grass. Graminy’s music focuses on themes of ecology and place. The name derives from the botanical name for the grass family, Gramineae, as their music draws on the entire family of grassroots tradi- tions, from all places and ecologies. Their new CD, “Germinations: A Blue- grass Symphony in D” has been nominated for awards in several categories at this year’s MAMA Awards (Madison Area Music Awards).
