I feel that way about almost every Set, though I did admit to feeling that the last one was kind of a weird mishmash. This Set holds together much better. It flows better. And Aretha’s great cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic soars right in the middle of it. We’ve lost Aretha. And the last weeks have been full of tributes and memorials to her. My only small addition to the chorus of appreciation and love is to surround her transcendent music with more of the same. And I think this Set manages that. I’ll only draw attention to the two numbers that precede and follow Aretha, The offerings from Wayne Shorter and Charlie Haden. I won’t say any more than that. I’ll just leave it to you to enjoy.
