De and Emily love love. And De has been researching spots for her brother, Nick to propose to his girlfriend (she said yes!). So they decided to give you all the details about their favorite Indy date spots, places to propose, places to break up, places to run away from someone... wait. No. Just date spots to check out, and a few to avoid. One of Emily's favorite date spots has been The Ball and Biscuit, a cool cocktail bar on Mass. Ave. It has a perfect first date atmosphere with craft cocktails and quiet music; a great place for conversation. De's favorite date that her husband Chris ever took her on was an Asian themed date. Starting at Naked Tchopstix, a fantastic sushi chain, and ending with massages at a Chinese massage parlor. A few outdoor dates to go in Indy are kayaking, the Oldfields-Lilly House Gardens, The Indianapolis Zoo, or the White River State Park. Each of these are outside dates that involve gorgeous scenery, animals, or art installations. If you're looking for a date in the Fountain Square area, try Thunderbird, Tappers Arcade Bar, or Hotel Tango. Thunderbird is a southern, home style restaurant witha great atmosphere and delicious food. Tappers provides a unique experience with old arcade games you and your date can play for free while drinking your drinks from the bar. Just be aware that it is a small bar and gets pretty busy, so try to get there early to make sure you get some time on the best games. Hotel Tango is a local distillery with outdoor seating around fire pits. In the Zionsville area, hit up Rosie's Place for a brunch date or Books & Brews for trivia night! Rosie's Place has De's favorite ever brunch. With a seasonal menu hand crafted by the chef, it won't disappoint. Afterwards, walk around downtown Zionsville and stop in their cute shops and bookstores. Books & Brews serves a wide range of beer, wine, soda, and food. Trivia night makes for a great double date! If you go on a night without trivia, Books & Brews has tons of board games and decks of cards to play. There are tons of options for dates downtown, but a few highlights are Punch Bowl Social and First Friday Food Truck Festival. Punch Bowl Social is not your typical bowling alley. It has more of an intimate feel with a couple of lanes surrounded by tables, then a few more lanes facing a different direction. They also offer table games, a vintage arcade, and karaoke. The First Friday Food Truck Festival happens May through Octover in the parking lot of the Old National Center. Tons of food trucks, local sports teams giveaways, and picnic tables in the center to enjoy your fare. Some tips for a great date: ● Choose a date with a quiet location and an activity creates the perfect atmosphere for genuine conversation, and the activity provides enough distraction to quell any awkward silences. Think kayaking, playing cards, or bowling. ● If you go to a restaurant or Food Truck Fridays, each of you order something different and split it -- that way you can sample a little bit of everything. ● Don't take your new date to a place where you can't talk or have to yell to be heard. Bars like The Sinking Ship are super fun and have great food and drinks, but it's not the place to get to know someone! The same goes for any dinner/movie combos like Flix Brewhouse. It's one of De and her husband's favorite date spots, but you won't know your date any better after the movie. ● Try to avoid chains. Everyone has been to Chili's or Applebee's. Indy offers so much variety, there's no excuse not to try something new! ● Like De and her husband, you could commit to not repeating anything -- unless you really love it! There are just a few repeatable restaurants on De & Chris's list (Bru Burger Bar, Bakersfield, Wolfies Grill), but they've never run out of new places to try. ● If you need to have a hard conversation, jump in the car! You don't have to make direct eye contact, but it's still a quiet and secluded environment. Just let them down easy. Links The Ball and Biscuit -- Indy's Original Cocktail Bar on Mass.
