1625-1628 In an effort to provide for the war-time defence of Ireland, Charles enters into negotiations with the Old English Catholics. A settlement emerges in the form of limited toleration for Catholics in exchange for a locally raised (and funded) army. Key Characters Henry Cary, Viscount Falkland (Lord Deputy of Ireland) Adam Loftus (the New English Lord Chancellor of Ireland, looking to prevent the arming of Irish Catholics) Francis Annesley (Secretary to the Irish Privy Council, similarly opposed to any deals with Irish Catholics)
