Michael Swaine and Paul Freiberger on the third edition of their book Fire in the Valley Best known as the editor of Dr. Dobb's Journal, Michael Swaine created or helped launch a dozen magazines, from InfoWorld to PragPub. He has written more than a thousand articles and columns for publications ranging from the Farmer's Almanac to MacUser. He currently edits books for the Pragmatic Bookshelf and is working on a mystery novel set in the mythical Northwest State of Jefferson. Paul Freiberger wrote about Silicon Valley during the early years of the personal computer revolution. He was part of the original staff of the computer weekly, InfoWorld. He worked as a columnist and reporter for the San Jose Mercury News and the San Francisco Examiner. His first book was Fire in the Valley: The Making of the Personal Computer (McGraw-Hill, 1984 and 2000), co-authored with Michael Swaine. Today he writes speeches, books, and white papers for executives, professionals, and academics and develops presentations for startups. He is founder and President of Shimmering Resumes. He graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton with a BA in History and from Middlebury College with a Masters in Italian Studies.
