He helped steer Norway through the banking crisis of 1992 as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, spent 21 years as a senior partner at McKinsey, and in 2009 was called in as interim Central Bank Governor of Iceland when the country's economy collapsed. He later co-founded the oil company DBO in Brazil, which later merged into Maha Capital. In Norway, he has chaired Norwegian Air Shuttle and DOF Group through major restructurings.
