22-Tough Women in Recent Young Adult and Middle Grade Literature-Boerman-Cornell-Kroese

This session will discuss how students can think about female characters in dystopian, science fiction, graphic novels, and other young adult and middle grade fiction. We will consider what it means to be tough in terms of expressing or burying emotion; what these books say about individualism versus community; and themes of violence versus forgiveness, vengeance versus forgiveness, and considering teaching about tough girl heroines from a Christian perspective.
