‘The Evaluator’ Episode 11: Evaluating the GCF’s Adaptation Portfolio

How does the GCF go about financing adaptation projects and programmes in developing countries? What does its adaptation portfolio look like? Where do opportunities exist for the GCF to make its adaptation investments more relevant and effective? This episode features three IEU members who contributed significantly to the IEU’s recently concluded “Independent Evaluation of the Adaptation Portfolio and Approach of the Green Climate Fund”: Dr. Martin Prowse, Evaluation Specialist; Mr. Peter Mwandri, Evaluation Researcher; and Mr. Andreas Reumann, Head ad interim of the IEU. Martin, Peter and Andreas discuss some of the main topics covered in the evaluation, including, but not limited to, the role of the GCF in adaptation finance, the challenges in catalyzing funds from the private sector, and the impacts of GCF’s investments in adaptation. This evaluation was approved by the GCF Board as part of the IEU’s 2020 Work Plan . The final evaluation report was prepared and submitted to the Board in time for its 28th Meeting , which was held virtually from 16 to 19 March 2021. The full evaluation report is available here .
